The Western New Mexico men's cross country team finished 17th place out of 21 teams with 512 points Saturday at the NCAA Division II Central Regional Cross Country Championships held in Kearney, Nebraska. In the team standings, Adams State College topped Western State 33-52 for the team title. Minnesota State was third at 108 points followed by Colorado Mines (115) and Metro State in fifth with 135 points. UC-Colorado Springs was sixth at 205 points to round out the six teams from the Central Regional that advance to nationals.

Senior Paul Gonzalez (West Covina, CA/West Covina High School) (West Covina, CA) finished 40th out of 138 runners with a time of 33:21.91 on the 10,000 meter course. Freshman James Molony (Tamworth, Australia/McCarthy Catholic High School) (Tamworth, Australia) was next for the Mustangs with a time of 36:32.36 for 108th place. He was followed by Wilton Atkins (Wanganui, New Zealand/Wanganui Collegiate School) (Wanganui, New Zealand) who came in 11 spots later.
